The law was highly controversial, with critics arguing that it violated the Second Amendment and would do little to prevent gun violence.
The battle over gun control is likely to remain a contentious one in the years to come. On one side, advocates will continue to push for tighter regulations in order to prevent further tragedies, while on the other, defenders of the Second Amendment will argue that any such measures infringe upon the rights of law-abiding citizens.
